Faith and curriculum

Do you welcome families of all faiths and backgrounds?

Families of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome at CalvaryPHX Early Learning Center, and our goal is to ensure every child and family feels safe, supported, and included.

As a ministry of CalvaryPHX, our Christian faith is part of the foundation of our Early Learning Center. We are committed to providing researched, faith-based curriculum in a safe, nurturing environment where children feel loved, valued, and free to learn through play. We strive to reflect Christ’s love through the way we care for children, build relationships with families, and encourage kindness, compassion, and respect.

What does faith look like in the classroom each day?

As part of CalvaryPHX, our Christian foundation helps guide the way we care for children and families. We strive to model kindness, compassion, patience, forgiveness, and love in our daily interactions. Through the way we treat one another, support our students, and build relationships with families, we aim to create an environment that supports this goal.

We utilize Frolic Bible Curriculum to weave Bible stories and hands-on applications in an age-appropriate way that aligns with how we know children learn best – through play.

What curriculum do you use?

Faith is incorporated into our learning environment through Frolic by Sparkhouse, an early childhood Bible curriculum designed to help young children explore faith through play, Bible stories, music, prayer, and engaging, age-appropriate activities. Through these experiences, children are introduced to biblical stories and values in ways that connect with their developmental stages and everyday lives.

Alongside our Bible curriculum, we use Learning Beyond Paper, a play-based educational curriculum that supports children’s development in areas such as language and literacy, mathematics, science, physical development, and social-emotional learning. Activities are aligned with Arizona’s early learning standards and guidelines and can be adapted to support each child’s individual needs and developmental milestones.

Our goal is to nurture the whole child by combining faith, meaningful relationships, and developmentally appropriate learning in a safe, loving environment.

Classrooms and ratios

What is the youngest age you accept?

CalvaryPHX Early Learning Center welcomes children as young as 6 weeks old! We provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive from infancy through their preschool years.

What are your teacher-to-child ratios?
Age groupTeachers to children
Infants1:5
1-year-olds2:8
2-year-olds2:10
3-year-olds2:13
Pre-K (4-year-olds)2:14
T-K (older 4-year-olds)2:16

We have two classrooms per age group, for a total of 10 classrooms. Playground times are often shared between an age group’s classes. Overall, we intentionally limit our capacity to keep class sizes small.

Safety and staff

How are teachers trained, and what background checks are required?

Our staff members are required to maintain Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Cards and undergo Department of Public Safety (DPS) background checks. Your child’s safety and well-being are our top priorities.

We also invest in ongoing staff training and professional development. New team members receive in-person training with administration, along with hands-on, side-by-side training from experienced mentor teachers in their assigned age groups. Our staff complete 24 hours of annual continuing education, as well as monthly staff training focused on specific areas of early childhood education and child development.

Additional staff requirements include CPR and First Aid training and a valid Food Handler’s Card. These ongoing training opportunities help our team maintain a safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for every child.

How do you keep children safe during drop-off and pick-up?

Security is an important part of our daily operations. CalvaryPHX Early Learning Center has a password-coded entrance to help maintain secure access to the building, along with a secure check-in system that uses unique PIN numbers for drop-off and pick-up.

We also have on-site security during business hours to provide an additional layer of support and safety. These procedures help us protect our students, maintain accountability, and give families greater peace of mind throughout the day.
